Take Action

Garfield Township residents deserve a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their homes, families, and community. As new wireless infrastructure proposals move forward, public participation is essential to ensure the Township Board hears directly from the people who live here. This is the time to speak up for transparency, local control, and responsible siting standards that protect neighborhood character, property rights, and community well-being.

There are three important ways you can take action right now, contact the Garfield Township Board, attend the next township meeting, and reach out to Senator Ron Johnson to share concerns about federal preemption under the Telecommunications Act. Local residents should not be sidelined when decisions are being made so close to homes and community spaces.

Your voice matters, and when many residents participate together, it sends a clear message that Garfield Township expects accountability and meaningful local input.

Contact the Garfield Township Board

Residents are encouraged to contact the Garfield Township Board and respectfully share their concerns about proposed cell tower siting, setbacks, notice requirements, transparency, and the need for local protections. Personal, location specific comments can be especially powerful. If you live near a proposed site, explain how the placement may affect your home, family, property, or surrounding neighborhood.

When writing to the Board, consider asking for:

  • Greater setbacks from homes, farms, and community spaces

  • More transparency and public notice before approvals are granted

  • Consideration of alternative siting locations farther from residences

  • Independent review and clearer public documentation

  • Local policies that better protect residents and preserve community character

Attend the Next Township Meeting

Showing up in person is one of the most effective ways to demonstrate that this issue matters to the community. Public attendance helps ensure local officials understand that residents are paying attention and expect thoughtful, transparent decision making. Even a short statement during public comment can help put important concerns on the record.

At the next Garfield Township meeting, residents can:

  • Attend and listen to discussion on wireless infrastructure proposals

  • Submit public comments or speak during the meeting

  • Ask questions about siting, setbacks, process, and alternatives

  • Encourage the Board to strengthen local protections and preserve community input

Bring neighbors if you can. A strong turnout shows that Garfield Township residents care deeply about how these decisions are made.

Regular Township Board Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 5PM.

Contact Senator Ron Johnson

Residents can also contact Senator Ron Johnson to share concerns about federal limits on local authority over wireless infrastructure decisions. In particular, many residents are concerned that federal preemption under Section 704 of the Telecommunications Act restricts how local governments can respond to community concerns, especially when towers are proposed near homes, schools, and other sensitive areas.

A message to Senator Johnson can ask him to:

  • Support stronger local control over tower siting decisions

  • Protect the authority of town boards and local governments

  • Oppose federal overreach that weakens meaningful public participation

  • Revisit legal barriers that prevent communities from fully addressing local concerns

Residents should be free to ask their elected leaders to preserve local governance and defend the right of communities to shape what is built near their homes.
